How We are Funded

Friends of Main Street is a private non profit,(501c3). We exist on many fund raising entities.
  • 24% of our funds come from grants
  • 23% comes from individual gifts and membership contributions
  • 36% comes from earned income (items sold, events, ad revenue)
  • 17% comes from a municipal contribution ** Friends of Main Street's funding plan has received State recognition and a state wide award in 2007 for it's diversity. We have a variety of revenue streams, all of which indicate strong support from a community with big hearts and generous contributions. We are blessed to have a wide variety of funding including: membership contributions, private donations, Foundation and Corporate grants, event income, and sales of memorabilia that embodies Winsted's community spirit and historic pride. **A strong public/private partnership is a requirement for Friends of Main Street to remain in the Connecticut Main Street consortium, as well as to maintain it's National Accreditation through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. At the center of this partnership is the recognition that the downtown is the hart of the community and it must be healthy and vibrant in order for the entire town to thrive. Support on the part of the municipality to ensure the downtown's success. This support must be programmatic and financial.
